Book Week

Last week was book week and was full of heaps of fun activities.

Tuesday we had a Shine a light show, where some of us even had the opportunity to be involved in this fun show.

Wednesday we had a Book parade where we got to dress up as our favourite book character. Everyone looked fantastic and Bella and Leonard even got prizes for best dressed!

Thursday we had a book swap day where we were able to bring some old books that were in a good condition and swap these for some new books to take home. This was a great opportunity to get books that were a bit harder now that we are older.

Friday was a crazy tie day. We were lucky enough to have Mrs Fleet as our teacher in the morning for Art and she let us create our own funky ties. They looked amazing and we got a certificate from Mrs Aitckson for how great we looked.

Museum

On Friday 17th June, we went for a trip to the Rotorua Museum to visit their Sunlight exhibition.
Sunlight - Ihi Kōmaru explores the massive impact the sun has on our life on earth, including how crucial it is to our very existence and the prominent role it plays in cultures across the world. (Rotorua Museum). http://www.rotoruamuseum.co.nz/exhibitions/details/sunlight-ihi-kmaru/

We learnt all about how the sun travels to earth and then also about how solar power works. We are now carrying on this learning with Miss Laurence at school because of the solar panels on our roofs.
The exhibit is open until the 14th August and would be are great activity to go look at again in the weekend or school holidays.

Assembly Performance

In Week 4, Room 19 had our assembly performance. We decided to use this to learn a rakau stick game as part of our Matariki celebrations.Keeping to the beat was extremely hard but we worked with determination and had a lot of fun learning this new song. The school also had a chance to join in and they also found it hard to keep to the beat.

Marae Visit

On Wednesday 25th May, Room 19 had a visit at  Tangatarua Marae, Waiariki.
We learnt all about the different features of the wharenui at the marae and that it was a marae to represent all cultures where we all belonged.
While we were there the girls learnt a beautiful poi song and the boys learnt a strong haka.
We also made flax flowers that were extremely tricky but the end
product was fabulous.
Last but not least we all sketched our favourite carvings and panels that we found in the wharenui.

Cross Country

Yesterday we had our school country. We have been training for cross country all term and were all excited to finally race. We all tried our very best and ran with all of our heart. Room 19 were extremely supportive of everyone in the class and cheered on our classmates. Well done to everyone that participated and trying their very best!!
Miss Laurence was an extremely proud of all of Room 19 for never giving up :)
